PROBLEMS IN GENERATORS FROM BIODIESEL TO FUEL
In recent years there has been a significant increase in problems in the fuel circuit in engines. The main problem of oils today is biodiesel. According to the European standard EN 590: 2009 which came out of the directive 2009/30 / EC in the diesel there must be a percentage of biodiesel in the proportion of 7%, while in the heating oil there is no corresponding directive at the moment.
Research has shown that biodiesel contributes significantly to the formation of fungal sludge which has a negative effect and causes operational problems in fuel circuits. Prolonged storage of motor oil with biodiesel, especially during the summer months, creates fungi that grow and create fungal sludge. The problem is most pronounced in seasonal or spare machines in which the fuel remains stored for a long time.
In the context of informing our customers, in order to prevent and avoid damage to Gensets due to the presence of biodiesel in oil, we propose the following preventive actions with a view to the smooth operation of backup power generators.
The oil shall be supplied by a reliable and reputable supplier in order to avoid tampering.
According to engine manufacturers, to avoid problems, it is recommended to consume oil from the tank within 6 months. Otherwise, if it has not been consumed, it is recommended to replace it with fresh oil.
Alternatively, to improve the storage conditions of the oil in the tank in order to reduce the likelihood of causing damage to the G/S and to prolong storage, special continuous-cleaning oil filters, special anti-fungal fuel additives and oil cleaning may be used every six months.
MAVROGENIS Company is by your side both to inform you further about the problems faced by diesel engines and to suggest actions to avoid problems in the proper operation of your G/S.
